On the day before Halloween 2021, I meet Yuji outside his apartment in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. We’re standing across from the old entrance to the botanic garden, a favorite haunt of mine, and, making conversation, I ask if he likes to visit.  “It’s too organized for me,” he replies. “I prefer weeds and wildflowers. The unknown.”
